Virginia Rugby Hall of Fame member Clarence Culpepper was iconic,intense,totally committed student,player,and coach of the game. Clarence played football at VPI (now Virginia Tech) as a linebacker and during his long run with Roanoke Rugby Football Club was named to the USA National Team,serving as Captain,on more than one tour.


Clarence Culpepper is shown in the backrow with his ears heavily taped. Clarence taped his ears with lots of tape ever since his return from South Africa in the late 70s when he nearly lost his ear in a ruck but was sewed back on by a skilled medical officer.
