David Dean is a rugby legend on every level. We have heard all the descriptions. The words you hear the most are "natural" "ghost like speed" "graceful stride" "speed is only relative for Dean" "who is that guy!!?" Dean lifts the whole side to play better. As a person, David is modest and easy to underestimate if you have never seen him play. Weighing in at 160lbs and under 6 ft,David looks more like a distance runner or golfer. Once David kicks it into gear, the stride is unmistakable. Whenever the Cardinals go on tour, the most common question is: Is Dixie onboard? All the players love to play with Dixie. It is really impossible to describe in words how Dixie plays the game. Ya just got to watch him play to really understand. David got his nickname,"Dixie",from Tony Brown, iconic rugby coach for NOVA and George Mason. Tony Brown was,of course, impressed with Dean's obvious flare for the game named Dean after the legendary English footballer of the 20s and 30s "Dixie Dean." |
