Frederick Wintermantel III
Member Commonwealth of Virginia Rugby Hall of Fame

Fred Wintermantel started playing rugby in college during the 1995-1996 season at Longwood College. Fred the MARFU collegiate All-stars from 1997-1999 during his time at Longwood. While at Longwood Fred sets scoring records which still hold today while also helping coach the Men's and Women's ruby teams. Fred left college and played rugby for Newport News and James River senior men's rugby teams before joining the Norfolk City Blues in 2001 until 2020. During his time with Norfolk he was selected as captain and selector several times while being voted MVP and best forward and back multiple times. Fred played for the MARFU Men's 15 All-stars from 2003-2007 and selected for MARFU 7's All-stars 2007-2009 winning a national championship in 2009. Fred was selected for the Atlantis 7's team that traveled to Tahiti to compete for the USA. Fred was invited to USA 7's camp in 2009 and was selected as an alternate. Fred played with the Cardinals in Aspen in 2012 and was selected from there to the USA classics and played for the USA Classic Eagles team from 2013-2022. Fred was selected for the Capitals select team 2016-2018. In 2000 Fred was commissioned to play pro for the Old Glory team during their inaugural season. Fred not only played but has been giving back with coaching helping local high school rugby 2013-2014. Fred has recently been named William and Mary Women's rugby team 2021 and took them to national playoffs for the same year.
