Matt Whalen

Matt Whalen started playing rugby when he moved to Vail in 1992 after playing football for Princeton and serving as football Captain in 1987.- Matt played 2 seasons in Vail before he was invited to play for Manly Rugby Club in Sydney Australia - Matt played one season there and made it up to the second side out of 8 sides - Matt played behind Willie Ofangowee who was a World Cup star. When back in the states Matt played for Nova for 7 years in both 15’s and 7’s and also played for the Albany Knickerbockers and the Tacoma Nomads on numerous tours. Matt captained the USA sevens team on a tour to Japan and a tour to Fiji (1997 or 98?). Matt continued to play after his first side career with many epic tours with the master side Virginia Cardinals in Fort Lauderdale and Aspen.

Matt Whalen was a key player and captain during NOVA's stellar 7's club record during the 90's.
