Tim Trivette Class of 2025 Truly a giant among men, it was always with an overwhelming feeling of pride that Tim Trivette’s teammates took to the field with him. Over his playing career, which began in 1984 and ended in 2005, Tim led the packs he played with into a cohesive unit. Well-equipped in whichever position was called for with his power (usually Second Row or Tight-Head Prop), once the whistle sounded, Tim would begin to take apart the opposition. Tim’s fierce devotion to the teams he played for was always on display. He was personally committed to make a difference in the outcome of every game he played. For the Norfolk Blues, he was named the Most Improved Player in 1985, which was followed up the following year with the Most Valuable Player in 1986 and another MVP in 1988. During that period, he was selected to the Blues’ First 15 of the Decade and then received the same distinction in the Second Decade, capped-off with Player of the Decade. Tim was Captain during the 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 seasons. Tim was a Virginia Rugby Union Select player for many years from the mid-1980s to the mid- 1990s, and an Eastern Rugby Union Select under 25. He was on the very first Mid-Atlantic Rugby Union (MARFU) team with Virginia Hall of Famer Chris Porter when they toured and played Bermuda. Between 1989 and 1990, Tim ventured overseas and played with distinction for the City of Armagh (Northern Ireland) Firsts, where he recently went back to help the club celebrate their 150th anniversary. After finishing his playing years, Tim played multiple years for the Virginia Cardinals Old Boys team, and was certainly a welcome sight for his Cardinals teammates from various Virginia clubs and elsewhere. Like other great players – for any club - Tim Trivette was – and is – always generous with his time and friendship, while reserved about his own importance. Sure to grab your attention, Tim’s undeniable good nature (unless you played opposite him) and prominence in the social side of rugby has always steered him back to his club as well as former opponents with other clubs. For players past and present, he always calls it like it is.
