EMAILS:

From Mike Puopolo:

Hello Fellows,

This email is being sent to ONLY the players that I believe are coming to Aspen. If you are not planning to be in Aspen then please advise me right away.

Below I will address the schedule, kit, social, and things to bring. If you have any questions or concerns, then please send me an email, or give me a call.

PRACTICE schedule - Rio Grande park at 5 pm on WEDNESDAY, Sept 16. We will get organized into sides, meet the new players, get rosters and waivers signed. We will probably be at the pitch until close to dark, at least 6:30. We will also move around enough to break a sweat.

THURSDAY match schedules -

45's - There are expected to be 5 or 6 teams in the 45's. The draw won't be determined for another week or so. We should expect to have two or three matches on Thursday. The roster for the 45's is quite solid. We could use another prop if anyone getting this email has any last minute ideas. Otherwise, Tatonka, Greg Robinette and Tony Brooks will be fine and we can offer some support with the 50's props if we get in a jam. Otherwise, we have excellent depth and I believe that we have a stronger side this year than last year.

50's - There are expected to be 4 or 5 teams in the 50's. We should expect to have two matches on Thursday. We have a stronger side than last year as well, both in the pack and the backline.

55's - There are 3 teams in the 55's bracket. The other two sides are the Florida Old Boys and the Colorado Old Pokes. Because both Florida and Colorado are also planning to play in the 50's, this bracket will only play one game each day. (All of the Florida roster, except for one player, is on both the 50 and 55 rosters). We will play either Florida or Colorado on Thursday in the 55's. Our second 55's match will be played on Friday or Saturday. We have a good 55's roster but can absorb more players if you have any to add. This side too is stronger than the 08' version. There are several of the 54+ players on the 50's who will back out of the 55's if we recruit some strictly 55+ players.

The 35's play on Friday. They have a nice side and are expecting a fair amount of support from some of the fellows on this email list.

KIT - All four of the Cardinal sides will be wearing the same kit. Navy blue shorts and socks and the Adidas jersey. If you haven't ordered a jersey yet, you can probably have it shipped to your hotel. Go to www.CardinalsRugby.com and go to kit.

SOCIAL - On Friday evening, we will have our only organized Aspen social for all of the Cardinals. Please plan to be at Eric's Bar (just off the pitch at Wagner Park) on Friday from 6 pm or so until 8 pm. The bar is closed to all but us and our guests.

PLEASE BRING - A PHOTOCOPY of your driver's license to be turned in with the rosters.

MONEY - The cost for the tournament is $30 per player, whether you play on one side or three. Of the seventy plus on this email, only about thirty have gone to the www.CardinalsRugby.com website and paid the $30 to register for the tournament. Please take a minute and do that. I appreciate that some of you will pay the $30 at the field or will send a check but this eliminates a lot of BS at the pitch. If for some reason, you are not able to do so then please send me an email and let me know. If you wish to send a check, then please mail a check to Cardinals Rugby, PO Box 5744, Charlottesville, VA 22905 and send me an email to let me know that you have done so.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Aspen for one of the best weeks of the year. Travel safely.

From Mike Harvey:

Flights booked, hotels booked, registration is paid and kit is ordered. I'm All in. See you guys there... Bill good luck at Nats this weekend, don't forget about my t-shirt. I wear size Swole. Swole

From Andy Mattocks:Cary, Dave Hatwell and I are planning on making it. I will try to visit the site and look at tournament fee payment over the weekend. thanks, andy Andrew Mattocks
From Brandon Brucker:I'm committed. Will be shoring up my flight itinerary today or this weekend.
From Fig:Locked and loaded... Flying in thursday to denver, staying at the molly gibson
Hello Mike Harvey, Thanks for writing. 4pm Sunday departure is tight but probably workable. I would discourage you from departing this early because you will miss out on the post tourney atmosphere and this early exit might actually affect your concentration and enjoyment if we qualify for the finals that will KO in the early afternoon. I would suggest a monday am departure. If monday is impossible for you, then last plane out of Aspen on sunday. If you stay sunday evening,I will buy your beers if you are within shouting distanse of me. cheers, Cary --- On Sat, 8/1/09, Michael Harvey wrote:

Cary, I'm looking at purchasing a flight out on Sunday. Does 4pm sound reasonable for a departure? What time is the Over 35s championship on Sunday? Let me know.
