Stephen J. Simulcik

Gents: It is with deep sadness that we report the death of our teammate and fellow rugger Steve Simulcik. Steve died after a long battle with Hodgkin's. I have attached below the obituary. Steve was a mighty second row player and great contributor to both United RFC and the Richmond Rugby Foundation, having served on both boards as Treasurer. Please keep Steve's family in your thoughts and prayers and consider attending the funeral tomorrow and/or paying your respects tonight at St. Mary's. Steve was far too young (37) to have had this happen and he leaves behind his wife Becky and 2 daughters Emma and Paige. We will greatly miss Steve as will the entire rugby community.

Stephen J. Simulcik, 37, of Woodford, died Friday, August 20, 2004, at his home after a courageous seven year battle with Hodgkin Disease and other complications that followed. Stephen was a life long member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Ladysmith, an Eagle Scout, and a 1989 graduate of VMI. He played rugby with the United Rugby Football Club of Richmond and was employed as a civil engineer for over 11 years with Henrico County Public Works. Also for the past four years, he had been the captain of one of the teams in the Caroline American Cancer Society "Relay for Life". Survivors include his wife, Becky L. Simulcik; two daughters, Emma and Paige Simulcik of the home; his father, Steve Simulcik of Woodford; a sister, Denise Barlow and her husband, Stacy; a brother, Michael Simulcik and his wife, Kathy, all of Woodford; three nephews, Conner Barlow, Justin Simulcik, and Andrew Schiller; two nieces, Summer and Eva Simulcik. He was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Koday Simulcik. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, August 24, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Annunciation, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery at Woodford. The family will receive friends at the church Monday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and followed by a Christian Wake service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2005 Caroline Relay for Life, c/o P.O.
