The following statement was submitted by Kevin Bennette May 1, 2002. Scheduling is really the only tangible benefit that distinguishes a server that has worked at Cambells for 20 years and a server that started last week. Here's what Kevin has to say:Last fall, the 12th and 13th positions on the master seniority list had 5 dinners/week. Since then the two most senior servers have retired. The last "5 day" schedule signed by the staff last week no longer has 5 dinners available for the 12th and 13th position. The 12th position has 4 dinners and the 13th position has 3 dinners. Why?
Although this affects me personally, I question this decision because I believe in continuity and tradition. I wonder how Campbell's Tavern can attract and retain good career servers if management continues to dilute the schedule with the senior positions. I have personally worked hard and have given my all to finally attain the 13th slot. Now the cards have been shuffled in the middle of the game? Where will it end, or does it? At what point can I or any server below me expect improved work opportunities or financial stability if the upper portion of the master schedule is degraded after each senior server retires or quits? Shame on management to try to fix something that wasn't broke.
